An ancient healing art practised by the Egyptians and Chinese. In the early part of the last 19th century Reflexology become more widely known in the West. The technique is used to stimulate the body’s healing capacities. The feet are very receptive to massage (also the hands respond well) since every part corresponds to a specific organ in the body. Whatever the complaint each treatment consists of a foot massage as a holistic healing technique. Headaches could be caused by eye-strain, digestive problems, pre-menstrual tension, muscle tension, etc. Concentrating solely on a headache would not necessarily get to the root of the problem. If one part of the body is out of balance, the whole body will be affected. Reflexology is used to restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. Reflexology is not diagnostic, but is used to discover areas of the body which are not functioning as well as they might. During treatment, an areas of tenderness may be experienced in the feet and the reflexologist will adjust accordingly the pressure so that maximum benefit is obtained. Each person responds to treatment in unique ways individual to them. A treatment varies from person to person and can help many chronic or acute complaints. Stress, tension, migraine, sinus disorders, menstrual problems, heart, circulatory problems and backache respond particularly favourably. Reflexology may appear a very simple treatment but results can be remarkable besides being relaxing and enjoyable.
