Art Therapy Known as Art Psychotherapy to assist clients to find their own way of explaining thoughts and feelings. By enabling an individual to find better understanding of self and own problems, this therapy can facilitate communication of inner or hidden thoughts, feelings and in communicating feelings with others when verbal expression does not come easy. In a safe environment clients to work in with various art materials. Often, therapist are artist and this enables them to understand art as a healing process. Practitioners may incorporating psychodynamic, humanistic and symbolic approaches to support, engage and encourage clients to express themselves with others through artwork. Art therapy is suitable for the young and mature on a one-to-one or group basis. Very helpful for individuals with acute mental illnesses, depression, emotional and behavioural difficulties, palliative care, learning difficulties and survivors of abuse. Therapists can be found throughout the NHS, Social Services, Education, Prisons, Voluntary sector and working independently. and Humberside Region of Registered Art Therapists Drama Therapy This therapy uses creativity in an active way for exploring, expressing and developing individual potential. It is concerned with growth and adapts to the needs of each individual with the therapeutic aim varying according to personal needs. Drama therapy can be about sharing and having fun within a group, learning to communicate and bring feeling into the open. It is about being accepted and realising that one is not alone. Some areas from which this techniques can draw upon are: dramatic re-enactment, story and ritual, artwork, sound and voice work, symbol and metaphor, dream work, movement, role play, guided fantasy, relaxation and more. Dramatic re-enactment in its many forms aims to enable us to re-work life experience symbolically, as we become more confident individuals, as an integral part in a group and while participating and re-creating ourselves drama re-enaction.
