Arometherapy and Essential Oils Although the name aromatherapy is only a few decades old, use of essential oils can be traced back to the to 10th century. Aromatherapy treatments combine the use of essential plant oils with massage, baths and inhalation. Treatment may offer remedy many and diverse conditions. Aromatherapy is better known as a beauty treatment rather than for its therapeutic qualities. ‘Aromatherapy facials’ are advertised in High street stores, Hairdressers and Sport centres, Glossy magazines, TV and even Cinemas, promoting often mass produced and pre-blended essential oils. Qualified therapists make their own preparation of essential oils for each client they treat. Practitioners take a case history before a treatment with essential oils and/or massage. Aromatherapists are often killed masseuse or masseur and are usually trained for a holistic approach to problems. This means that they observe lifestyle, diet, exercise, environmental factors, allergies, emotional problems and not merely treat a symptom. Therefore, treatments also include counsel about using their preparations of essential oils at home in a self-healing fashion. CAROL ANN BROWN [ Hippypottermouse Unit C8a The Concourse Id
